Amber’s Time-Travel Diary: My Life in Hanfu
A Bridge Between Worlds
When I’m not in my studio inspecting cards, you might not recognize me. I trade my everyday casual outfits for flowing silk, intricate embroidery, and jade hairpins. Yes—I am absolutely obsessed with Hanfu (Traditional Chinese Clothing)!
To me, Hanfu isn't just a costume; it’s a way to carry 5,000 years of Chinese culture on my shoulders. It makes me feel like a character who stepped right out of an ancient poem.
My "Photoshoot Obsession"
I love taking professional Hanfu Photoshoots! There’s something so magical about finding a hidden garden or an ancient temple, putting on a Tang-style "Qixiong Shanqun" (chest-high skirt), and letting the camera capture that timeless beauty.
One of my favorite shoots was in a bamboo forest. I felt just like Fluttershy, but in a traditional Chinese way—gentle, serene, and connected to nature.

When Ancient Style Meets Card Collecting
️
People ask me: "Amber, how can you love both American-style ponies and ancient Chinese Hanfu?" My answer is simple: They both celebrate magic and storytelling.
This passion for "Eastern Magic" has naturally led me to seek out cards that reflect this aesthetic. I am absolutely thrilled whenever I source ancient-style TCG series, such as "The Untamed"
The Details: Just like I inspect the foiling on a CR card, I obsess over the embroidery on my Hanfu sleeves. This same appreciation for craftsmanship is why I love the delicate, ink-wash style artwork found in these ancient-themed sets.
The Stories: The legendary tales of Wei Wuxian or Xie Lian possess the same themes of friendship and courage that we love in Equestria—just told through a different lens of time.

A Little Spark of "Eastern Magic"
Because I’m so deeply inspired by Hanfu culture, I often find myself wanting to blend that ancient beauty into my designs. Whether I’m drafting a new promotional flyer or sourcing cute new accessories for the shop, I often think: "Wouldn't this traditional Chinese pattern look stunning here?"
However, because I have so much respect for everyone’s individual culture and preferences, I sometimes hesitate. I worry that adding these "Eastern touches" might not be what you’re looking for, so I’ve held back on some of these ideas.
But I’d love to know what you think! Would you like to see a bit of my culture mixed with our pony magic?
Let’s Chat!
Have you ever seen Hanfu in real life? Or do you have a traditional dress from your own culture that you love to wear?
Tell me in the comments! I’d love to see photos of your cultural treasures. Let’s celebrate all the different kinds of "magic" together!
With grace and sparkles,
— Amber
