Turn empty foil card wrappers into glossy magnetic displays for your desk, fridge, or collector wall.

Don’t Trash That Foil!

We’ve all been there: the hype is real, you open a fresh box of MLP cards, rip through the packs, and boom—you’ve got your hits. But what happens to the beautiful foil wrappers? Most people just throw them in the trash. Some of my more meticulous collector friends will carefully cut them out and slip them into their binders to save the art.

But recently, I stumbled upon a much cooler, way more fun way to preserve that gorgeous pack art long-term. Let’s turn them into custom magnetic displays!

Mini acrylic board and magnetic sheet supplies for the DIY magnet display.

You can slap these babies onto your fridge, your metal desk organizers, or honestly, if you’re feeling wild, even the iron fence outside your house! No judgment here. 🦄✨

The Bare Minimum Toolbox

The best part? The supplies are incredibly simple. You only need two main ingredients:

A Mini Acrylic Board: I used a square one for this project, but feel free to choose circles, rectangles, or whatever fits your vibe. The steps are exactly the same!

A Flexible Magnetic Sheet: Self-adhesive ones are the absolute easiest to work with.

Amber's Shopping Tip: You can easily find these at any local craft store , stationery shops, or Amazon. Can you DIY the acrylic or magnets from scratch? I mean, technically yes, but it is a massive headache. Save your energy and grab them online! 🛒

Step-by-Step Magic: Let’s Build It!

Step 1: The First Sticky Contact

Peel off the protective film from the adhesive side of your acrylic board. Take that sticky side and place it firmly over the exact part of the pack artwork you want to showcase.

Step 2: Battle the Bubbles!

Check for any sneaky air bubbles. If you see one, don't panic! Gently peel the wrapper back a bit, scrape the bubbles out using a card or your thumb, and smooth it back down. Keep going until it looks perfectly sleek and seamless, just like the picture below!

Step 3: Trim the Excess

Trimming the wrapper around the acrylic board edge.

Grab a sharp pair of scissors or a craft knife, and carefully trim away the excess wrapper by tracing along the edges of the acrylic board.

Step 4: Lock in the Magnet

Slap the flexible magnetic sheet onto the back of your wrapper. Press it down hard to make sure it sticks for good.

And just like that, BOOM! Your custom, glossy magnetic display is born!

Level Up Your Display: Amber’s Creative Corner

Once you get the hang of it, the sky is the limit.

Add Some Bling: You can use acrylic paint markers to doodle on the surface, add some calligraphy, or decorate it with tiny stickers before sealing.

The Ultimate Flex: Don't limit yourself to wrappers. Got some duplicate Pony cards lying around? Use this exact same method to turn your extra cards into heavy-duty premium fridge magnets!

Let’s Chat!

What do you usually do with your empty card wrappers? Are you team "Throw it Away" or team "Hoard it in a Binder"?

If you try this DIY tutorial, please snap a pic and post it in the #pony-art-gallery channel in our Discord! I can't wait to see your fridge glow-ups. Let's keep making our spaces more magical, one magnet at a time! 💖🔮
